Julie and Jim have three married children and four grandchildren. For birthdays, they like to send out a card and a check to their loved ones. As they age, they are getting a little forgetful. Fortunately, they have arranged a way to make sure they do not fail to remember to send out a birthday card and check.
Julie: Yeah, we have a great family. We have truly been blessed by the Lord. Our children and grandchildren bring us great joy!
Jim: Julie does a great job keeping up with the birthday cards but our memories are not quite as sharp as before. I guess it is a sign that we are getting older.
Julie: We learned that the EFCA Foundation offers a service for people like us. Through the gift annuity program, they will send out a card from us along with a check to the people we love. They will do this as long as we live. This is done through the birthday annuity program.
Jim: We set up ten birthday annuities, one for each of our children, their spouses, and all our grandchildren. Each now receives a birthday card along with a check each year around their birthday. The EFCA Foundation does all the work for us.
Julie: I really like the birthday annuity option. The EFCA does a great job with these and have made birthday annuities quite affordable. The minimum to set one up is $1,000 which is less than the normal gift annuity minimum of $5,000. And, a card and a check will be sent out from the EFCA Foundation for as long as we live. In our case, each person will receive a check for $75. Rates will vary depending on your age but it can be quite attractive.
Jim: It also is good from a tax perspective. Since Julie and I are the donors, we were able to claim a charitable gift deduction last year when we established these birthday annuities. This was helpful at tax time. We also have the peace of mind knowing that sometime in the future the Evangelical Free Church of America will be able benefit with funds to further the Lord's Work.
Julie: We heartily recommend the birthday annuity option. It meets our goals, saves taxes, and provides for the Lord's work.
